The University of Luxembourg's Research Group in Applied Thermodynamics is inviting applications for a PhD candidate position under the guidance of Prof. Stephan Leyer. The position envisages joint submission of an application for funding of the PhD fellowship under the AFR program of the Luxembourg National Research Fund.
Your role
Role & Research Topics: You will have the chance to conduct advanced research in one or more of the following topics:
- Adiabatic boiling
- Evaporation Modelling
- Machine Learning in Fluid Mechanics
- Flashing Phenomenon in Adiabatic Riser Pipes
- Heat Transfer Optimization
- Cavitation
- Wire Mesh Sensor Optimization
Candidates may also propose their topic within the group's focus.
The work involves lab experiments, simulations, data acquisition, validating findings, publishing results, and assisting in workshops.

Your profile
- MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
- Familiarity with areas such as design-of-experiments, computational fluid dynamics, machine learning, and experience in programming (MATLAB, C++, Python)
- Strong written and spoken English (German, French, or Luxembourgish are a plus)
- A passion for multidisciplinary research and excellent communication skills
