Your role
You will join the UBIX Research Group (https://www.uni.lu/snt-en/research-groups/ubix/), led by Prof. Raphaël Frank, and work in close collaboration with the industrial partners that are part of the 5GDrive consortium.
This industrial PhD position is part of the 5GDrive Project, co-funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy. The industrial partners include Post Luxembourg (https://www.post.lu/) and Ohmio Europe (https://ohmio.com/). This PhD project focuses on developing a tele-operated driving system for autonomous vehicles using 5G technology. The aim is to create a low-latency, high-throughput network application that enables real-time control and video transmission for remote vehicle operation. The project will develop a prototype, rigorously tested in both lab environments and real-world conditions, to validate its reliability and safety. The research will contribute to advancements in autonomous vehicle technology, focusing on secure communication, reducing latency, and optimizing 5G's application in connected transportation.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out research and shape research directions in the predefined areas
- Disseminating results through scientific publications
- Communicating and interacting with the partner's team to collect requirements and report results
- Implementing, testing and evaluating proof-of-concept prototypes
- Collaborating with other researchers of the 5GDrive project
- Participating in related topics events

Your profile
Qualification: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or any related engineering discipline
Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and/or experience in several of the following key topics:
- Wireless Communication Technologies
- Autonomous Systems
- Perception Systems
- Machine Learning
Hard Skills: Strong analytical and programming skills are highly valued (Python and C/C++). Prior proven experience in innovation and research projects is a plus
Soft Skills: Most importantly, we seek individuals who are curiosity-driven, eager to continuously learn and explore new ideas while collaborating with a team
Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. French, German or Luxembourgish is a plus
