Your role
We are looking for a dedicated and highly organised professional to manage and develop our special collection on Chinese language and culture in the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC). This role involves specialised cataloguing, collection management and promotion of these unique resources, ensuring its accessibility and engagement within our academic community and the society in Luxembourg. The successful candidate will also organise cultural and promotional activities that highlight this collection's significance.
Your role
- Cataloguing and Metadata Management:
- Perform detailed cataloguing and classification of materials using standards such as RDA, MARC21, Dewey Decimal Classification and Rameau for bibliographic and content description
- Maintain and manage the special collection through the Alma Library Management System
- Collection Development and Liaison:
- Act as the primary liaison between the Confucius Institute and the LLC to develop, manage and curate materials related to Chinese language, literature, history and culture
- Work closely with library staff, researchers and faculty to ensure the collection supports academic and research needs
- User Engagement and Promotion:
- Plan and organise cultural and bibliographic activities to promote the Chinese language and culture collection among library users, including exhibitions, workshops and lectures
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to raise awareness and usage of the collection
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in the overall management and development of the library's special collections
- Provide reference services, assist users in accessing and navigating this special collection
- Keep abreast of new developments and best practices in cataloguing and library services, especially concerning East Asian languages and cultures
Your profile
What we expect from you
- Bachelor's degree in Library/Information science or equivalent, with a focus on cataloguing or East Asian studies
- Experience of at least 1 year in a similar position or working in an academic or research library setting
- Familiarity with special collections management and outreach
- Proficiency in cataloguing standards including RDA, MARC21, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Rameau
- Experience with Alma Library Management System or similar platforms
- Good level in English and French (spoken & written). German or Luxembourgish will be an advantage
- Knowledge of Chinese language and culture, with an understanding of academic and cultural resources related to China would be an asset
- Experience in managing and promoting special collections
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment
- Team spirit, dynamism and sense of initiative
- Flexible, multi-tasking and able to prioritise
- User-oriented with excellent communication skills
