The Department of Life Sciences and Medicine (DLSM) is part of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of Luxembourg. DLSM is coordinating all teaching programmes in the life sciences, medicine, nursing and midwifery. Research at the department integrate basic and translational, molecular and computational approaches with a focus on cancer biology, as well as clinical research projects in human health and disease.

The DLSM cooperates with the national health care centres and with leading international biomedical research institutions. Medical and health sciences education at the University of Luxembourg are rapidly growing and are strategic areas of development for both the University and the government of Luxembourg. To effectively foster high quality teaching within the recently created study programmes, namely a Bachelor in Medicine and several nursing sciences programmes as well as midwifery, the University of Luxembourg is recruiting for the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) a Full Professor/Associate Professor (promotion track) of Anatomy.

Your role

The successful candidate will coordinate the anatomy teaching activities of the University's bachelor programme in medicine and other study programmes in the health care and life sciences. The new colleague will work closely with the professors of histology and embryology to ensure an integrated and cohesive learning experience for students.

This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with local and international partners to develop and implement a state-of-the-art anatomy curriculum. The successful candidate will be able to employ innovative approaches in anatomy education, including the use of virtual dissection tools, 3D anatomical models (such as Anatomage® and the virtual anatomy suite), and online resources, to ensure that students have access to comprehensive and engaging learning opportunities.

The recruited candidate will have access to state-of-the-art infrastructures within the university, including a simulation unit equipped with an anatomy suite. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating dissection courses and practical anatomy labs, including the procurement of virtual tools and teaching specimens in collaboration with medical institutions and partner universities.

Your profile

  • PhD in a medicine related field and/or MD diploma
  • Long-standing experience in the teaching of human anatomy, ideally in a variety of curricula in medicine, life sciences and for health care professions at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary and innovative teaching that integrates anatomy with histology and embryology
  • Experience or familiarity with modern teaching tools such as virtual dissection platforms, 3D modelling, and other digital resources
  • Solid track record in clinical and/or biomedical research within a related domain
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build and foster academic partnerships, particularly with existing collaborators at partner universities and institutions
  • Physician candidates should have a clinical/medical activity

Research portfolio: the candidate has an internationally recognised research profile and is expected to develop ambitious research activities in line with the strategic priorities of the university. The latter include cancer research, neurosciences, data-driven health sciences, digital biology, and medicine.

The ideal candidate has a medical background with relevant clinical experience and a commitment to integrating clinical perspectives and applications into anatomy education to enhance the practical, real-world application aspect of anatomy courses. The possibility of a clinical activity will be decided on a case-by-case decision. Non-medical profiles with a strong affinity and expertise in anatomy will be considered as well.

Language requirements:

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual and multicultural context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and must speak either French or German.   • Contract Type: Academic - Permanent. This position is offered at the Full Professor or Associate Professor level, depending on qualification. Both positions are tenured. At the Associate Professor level, promotion to Full Professor is possible after 5 years upon positive evaluation
