Your role

We are offering an exciting PhD position in Multimodal Machine Learning for Battery Management Systems (BMS). The selected candidate will join the Computer Vision, Machine Intelligence, and Imaging (CVI²) research group, led by Prof. Djamila Aouada, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg. The PhD candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in predefined topics aligned with the group's ongoing activities. Their work will encompass the full research pipeline, including state-of-the-art literature review, development of novel methodologies, real-time implementation, and experimental validation. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary context at the forefront of machine learning and energy systems in collaboration with renown European partners with a strong expertise in battery modeling.


Your Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out research in the topic of Multimodal Machine Learning for Battery Management Systems (BMS)
  • Leveraging data modeling strategies based on battery cell and semiconductor-like material properties
  • Proposing and implementing real-time solutions
  • Setting-up and running experiments
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications and/or patents
  • Participating in organizing relevant workshops and demonstrations

Your profile

  • A master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
  • Prior experience in data modelling and analysis of battery cells or related energy storage systems
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering materials and in particular semiconductor-like materials
  • Strong background in Applied Mathematics
  • A specific interest for renewable energy
  • Background in image/signal processing
  • Programming skills in Python
  • Familiarity with data analysis, machine learning, and deep learning concepts
  • Commitment, team working and a critical mind
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory
