The Laboratoire national de santé (LNS) recruits a Data Engineer in a full time and permanent position within the department of microbiology.


ABOUT LNS


The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, the LNS consists of four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. In addition, the LNS is also hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange since 2013.


The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.

 

THE DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY:


The department is subdivided into three units:

  • Bacteriology, Mycology, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Hygiene
  • Virology and Serology
  • Pathogen Sequencing and Epidemiology


All three services are dedicated to the diagnosis, surveillance and epidemiological surveillance of various infectious diseases using conventional and molecular methods. Processes are partially digitized and automated and software systems must communicate within the digital LNS infrastructure. In addition, the growing use of molecular biology methods based on next-generation and whole-genome sequencing is responsible for the creation of huge amounts of data that need to be integrated and managed.

 

We are seeking a talented and motivated  Data Engineer to join our Microbiology department. In this role, you will play a key role in building and consolidating a well-organized, secure data repository and providing a department-wide central data access. Your work will support laboratory automation, manage digital workflows, and integrate all services into a cohesive structure. Your contributions will help streamline processes, save time and resources, and facilitate agile workflows.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Data Management: Build and consolidate a secure, well-organized data repository.
  • Central Data Access: Provide a department-wide central data access to streamline data availability.
  • Digital Workflow Management: Manage and optimize digital workflows to enhance efficiency.
  • Laboratory Automation Support: Support the process of laboratory automation by integrating modern technologies.
  • Agile Workflow Implementation: Switch towards and promote agile workflows within the department.
  • Service Integration: Create a transversal structure that integrates all services with online communication and applications.
  • Dashboard Visualization: Develop user-friendly dashboard visualizations for data insights.
  • Documentation: Provide comprehensive documentation that meets quality requirements.
  • Ticket System Creation: Establish a trackable ticket system to manage tasks and issues.
  • Optimization: Optimize and shorten throughput times, saving time and resources by leveraging modern technologies, ensuring data security, and adhering to legal frameworks.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master’s degree in Data Science with advanced training in full stack development.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing a central data warehouse.
  • Experience with medical laboratory workflows and requirements is highly desirable.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of laboratory workflows.
  • Passion for harmonizing data flows and optimizing processes.
  • Excellent task management skills with a proactive work ethic.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in French and/or German, with English being a plus.
