Junior Professionals – based in Luxembourg


This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support. The EIB, the European Union's bank, in the framework of its GRAD programme, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS), transactional teams, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, Junior Professionals *.

Junior Professionals are offered a dedicated training programme. They will engage in intensive blended learning – on-the-job and in the classroom (or online) - working alongside more experienced colleagues.  


Operating Network

The Operations Directorate (OPS) is the EIB’s client-facing directorate, responsible for the origination and execution of projects inside of the European Union and for delivering the bank’s business plan (“Operational Plan”) in line with priorities defined by its shareholders, the EU’s 27 Member States. In addition, OPS is responsible for the mobilisation and management of third-party funds (mandates) in support of EIB activities and coordinates and provides advisory services to project promoters and managing authorities receiving EU budgetary funds.

OPS is the Bank’s largest directorate, numbering around 760 staff, grouped in 10 departments, of which seven are transactional (Western Europe, Baltic States and Northern Europe, Central and South Eastern Europe, Iberia, Adriatic Sea, Financial Institutions, and Equity Growth Capital and Project Finance) and three have horizontal functions (Business Planning and Mandate Management, Operations Support and Advisory).


Accountabilities

As a Junior Professional in OPS, you will gain exposure to several of the Directorate’s key activities, according to business needs, your background, your skills, and your experience. Under the supervision of the Head of Division/Head of Unit and of other senior colleagues, you will support OPS’ related lending activities by:

  • Assisting in the identification, appraisal, approval and closing of suitable projects to develop a portfolio of operations to support the relevant business plan.
  • Drafting client briefings, reports, presentations and contributing to external communication and institutional events.
  • Providing support to the team in implementing the day-to-day operations.
  • Undertaking financial analysis and due diligence on projects to develop impact.
  • Providing analytics, research or other professional support as required.


On occasion, you may have the opportunity to accompany senior colleagues in client-facing meetings and negotiations abroad.


Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in a relevant field of studies such as Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance, Economics. A Master degree would be an advantage.
  • No more than 2 years of prior professional experience on the day of your application, preferably gained in a financial institution, an international organization or a public or private entity in the field of banking, or finance.
  • Experience in a lending environment will be considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience in financial analysis will be considered an advantage. 
  • Excellent drafting skills, analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with focus on Excel. 
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (**), with a good command of the other
  • For this specific campaign native-speaking level in the following languages: German; Dutch, Spanish, Danish, Swedish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and Finnish is an advantage.
